We know, we've been neglecting our blog a little bit. But never fear, Patience has been getting together her own "writing blog" where she posts weekly short stories (#fridayflash), her drawings and a selection of poems. Catch up with her at looking-both-ways.blogspot.com . As for Daren... well maybe he'll finally post some pictures of our beautiful apartment tomorrow.
Oh, and please notice our new "Followers" gadget on the left. Who knows, if we knew who was keeping tabs we might be inspired to write more often.
love,
Daren and Patience

My First Grown-up
I've been somewhat remiss in my blogging because Daren does such a great job, I just leave it to him. But recently, Daren got an office and so he isn't doing work at home where i can convince him to up-date the blog. So, the delightful task falls to me (I am a writer after all).
After our wonderful safari with our friends, Kim and Buck, we all spent a day in Mombasa before they caught a plane to Nairobi and flew back to the U.S. Kim had wanted to get henna from my teacher while we were in Lamu, but we never seemed to find the right time. So, the night before she flew back, I tightened my belt, spat in my palms and set to work.
Let me just say, I may have been terrified. I'd been applying henna on kids in my neighborhood, but to actually do henna on someone that cared? But, turned out Kim didn't care. She told me to just slap some on. I'm glad she was my first grown-up, she was easy to please which took all the fear out of doing it. I had a blast!
Here are the photos. I did way simplified henna, more like mzungu (tourist) henna with it only on the hands and feet instead of all the way up the arms and legs.

Tsenes from Tsavo
Tell me that doesn't look like an elephant.
This is what ebony looks like before they chop it down and cut off all the white to get the dark black wood you're familiar with.
Into the storm ... er, sprinkle
Some savanna
The view from our lodge. Looks just like the brochure.
Reminds me of Four Peaks out in Arizona
Patience loves dead trees, "its something about them." Thanks dear, that cleared it right up for me.
Patience's favorite shot from the whole safari
(she took it after wrestling the camera from my clutches, she had to knock me against the side of the van a few times...)
One of the many deserted water holes, this one's part of a larger river that supplies most of Mombasa's water a few hundred miles away.
Pretty birds - flamingos in flight
More pretty birds, making their nests over croc infested waters
